The purpose of this project is to exhibit my skills with real-time FX using Unreal Engine. The Witcher 3, created by CD Projekt Red, inspired this series of FX you might see in The Witcher universe.
I created this fun cinematic in Unreal Engine. I got all of the models, including the scenery, from Fab.com. The wyvern came with animations.
I started by building out my landscape. Next, I used the sequence editor to add the wyvern to the viewport and animate it how I needed. Then, I started on the dust FX using Niagara fluids, and once finished, I created the wyvern's breath attack using Niagara particle FX. I custom-created the textures used for the breath attack. The embers were made using a simple gradient material in Unreal. Then, I used Embergen to create a custom looping flipbook for the fire and smoke. The lightning was made using a custom texture I hand-drew in Photoshop for a past project. After all the FX and scenery were finished, I keyframed a camera and rendered a cinematic as a PNG sequence using the movie render queue. Finally, I pulled that sequence into DaVinci Resolve to add some final polish with post-processing FX, and rendered out a final .mov file.
